Prophet and Forerunner of Jesus • Life of Jesus
John the Baptist was the prophetic forerunner who prepared Israel for the coming of Jesus. Born to Zechariah and Elizabeth, he preached repentance, baptized in the Jordan, identified Jesus' unique importance, and baptized Him. John later rebuked Herod Antipas over Herodias and was imprisoned and executed.
