Cozbi

Midianite Noblewoman • Wilderness

Cozbi was a Midianite woman, the daughter of Zur, a leader among the Midianites. During Israel’s time in the wilderness, she was brought into the camp by Zimri, an Israelite leader, in open defiance of God’s commands amid a plague caused by Israel’s sin with the Moabite and Midianite women. Phinehas, the grandson of Aaron, executed both Zimri and Cozbi, stopping the plague and demonstrating zeal for the Lord. Her death marked a turning point in ending the judgment upon Israel.
