Leader of a Simeonite Family • Wilderness

Zimri was an Israelite leader from the tribe of Simeon, identified as the son of Salu. During Israel’s time in the wilderness, he openly brought Cozbi, a Midianite woman, into the camp in defiance of God’s commands while a plague was already afflicting the people due to their sin at Peor. Phinehas, the grandson of Aaron, responded with zeal by killing both Zimri and Cozbi, which stopped the plague. Zimri’s actions and death became a defining example of rebellion and the consequences of covenant unfaithfulness.
