Philip

Evangelist and One of the Seven • Early Church

Philip was one of the seven men appointed by the Jerusalem church to oversee the daily distribution. Following persecution in Jerusalem, he preached in Samaria, where many believed and were baptized. He was later directed by an angel to meet an Ethiopian official, whom he taught from Isaiah and baptized. Years later Paul stayed at Philip's home in Caesarea, where Philip was known as the evangelist and had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.
