Mark, commonly identified with John Mark, was an early Christian missionary associated with Peter, Paul, and Barnabas and is traditionally identified as the author of the Gospel of Mark. His mother Mary hosted believers in Jerusalem, and Mark accompanied Paul and Barnabas on missionary work before returning to Jerusalem. After a disagreement over Mark, Barnabas took him to Cyprus. Later writings show Mark restored to useful ministry alongside Paul, while Peter affectionately refers to a Mark as his son.
