Centurion of the Augustan Cohort • Early Church
Julius was a Roman centurion of the Augustan Cohort who was placed in charge of Paul and other prisoners during their voyage toward Rome. He treated Paul kindly, allowed him to visit friends at Sidon, and later prevented the soldiers from killing the prisoners after the shipwreck because he wanted to save Paul's life.
