Roman Emperor • Life of Jesus
Caesar Augustus was the Roman emperor named by Luke in connection with the decree that brought Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem around the time of Jesus' birth. His reign provides the imperial setting for the opening events of Luke's Gospel.
