Gamaliel

Pharisee and Teacher of the Law • Early Church

Gamaliel was a respected Pharisee and teacher of the law who served on the Jewish council. When the apostles were threatened with death, he advised the council to exercise restraint, arguing that movements of merely human origin would fail on their own. Paul later identified Gamaliel as the teacher under whom he had been educated.
