Elymas the Sorcerer • Early Church
Bar-Jesus, also called Elymas, was a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet associated with Sergius Paulus, the Roman proconsul of Cyprus. He opposed Barnabas and Paul and attempted to turn the proconsul away from the faith. Paul rebuked him, and Elymas was temporarily struck blind.
