Clement of Rome was a prominent leader of the church at Rome near the end of the first century and is traditionally counted among the early bishops of Rome. He is associated with 1 Clement, an early Christian letter sent from the Roman church to the church at Corinth during a period of internal conflict. The letter appeals for humility, order, repentance, and restored unity while repeatedly drawing upon Scripture and the example of the apostles.
